Star of Bethlehem
Experts believe the star of Bethlehem which supposedly guided the magi to baby Jesus was really a conjunction of two planets.
A conjunction happens when two celestial objects appear to pass very near to each other from our perspective on Earth. Often, these conjunctions look like one large object rather than separate ones.
“A supernova in 1006, the brightest ever, was as bright as the sun,” he says. “It was visible to the naked eye for more than two years.”
According to Chinese records, there were supernova – or “guest stars” as the Chinese described them – that appeared in the sky right around the time when Jesus may have been born, in 4 and 5 BCE.
Tomorrow we begin 24days of Christmas! We will post historical , unusual and rarely known facts about Christmas. I hope you enjoy it!
Here’s a bonus fact!
Was Jesus born in a manger?
First, Jesus wasn’t born in a manger but laid down in a manger, therefore, he was born already.
Lets move on.
Because of the crowds that had come to Bethlehem, there was no room at the inn for Mary and Joseph , according to Luke.
While tradition says that the inn was a sort of hotel, the Greek word translated “inn” (kataluma) could be translated “guest room.”
This fact has led some to believe that Jesus may not have been born in a stable or barn, but in a house with a lower floor serving as a nighttime shelter for the families’ animals. If that were the case, it wouldn’t be surprising to find a manger located in that area of the house.
By the way, the bible states that Mary and Joseph were already staying in Bethlehem before Jesus’ birth. Hence, it is not likely that there weren’t any vacancies but more logically there wasn’t any space in the guest room of the house.
